Editorial Review:
Product Description: Sony's SRS-P7 passive portable speaker system joins together for portability and is lightweight and easy to carry. The SRS-P7 features bass reflex duct design for powerful bass, stereo mini plug input and requires no batteries or external power source. Just plug it into your portable audio product and start enjoying your music.
Amazon.com Product Description: The SRS-P7 passive speakers provide a lightweight, portable option for your personal music player. With their compact size and shape, these speakers are perfect for a dorm room or office. Because they use a passive system, the power to sound these speakers comes from the source music player. These speakers will not provide the sound quality or power of active speakers. That said, these low cost, low-weight, compact speakers do provide good sound. One way Sony accomplishes this is by featuring a bass reflex duct design; this design provides extra bass. There is one stereo mini-plug on the speakers so that you can hook up your personal player with ease. The speakers are joined together for better portability. Because there are no power adaptors or batteries required, this speaker system is easy to pick up and carry to the next room (they weigh under ten ounces), or to the next state, should you want to travel with these small speakers.

These speaker are not as powerful as I had hoped but definitely get the job done. They are great speakers for the price. Shipping was quick and got here on time. No complaints.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
They are so low you can hardly hear them.
Just add $10 and buy Sony SRS-TP1. They sound MUCH BETTER, do not require any batteries, either, and are more portable.

I use these every day at my place of work. They're easily audible (run from an iPod) in the quiet room. I am getting another pair for listening to audio from my Palm when I'm at home.
In. A. Quiet. Room.
These speakers are *not* amplified in any way (which is why they have no plug, which is great when you've got to be really portable). That means they are practically useless in average noise environments. For example, a car. They're not much good outside unless you're right on top of them.
But for indoor use in quiet areas, they're small and low-profile.

When they say "Passive," they're not kidding -- As many of the 1-star reviews have stated, these are actually quieter (read: barely audible) than laptop internal speakers. Although they did kick out a little more sound from an iPod Nano than if you plugged in headphones and cranked to to eleven. Moral of the story: if you plan on listening in a fixed location, get a set of powered speakers; if you plan on listening to an mp3 player on the go, these will do a mediocre job for just ten bucks. There is likely a better bargain speaker out there though.
