Amazon.com Product Description: The Samsung HCM5525WX projection HDTV monitor is designed for those looking to transform a room into a theater. Its 55-inch widescreen viewing area is set in a smart-looking medium-gray cabinet, making it the ideal choice for big-screen enjoyment in medium-size and large rooms. When you're ready for the world of full high-definition TV, just add a HD satellite/off-air receiver or an HDTV tuner to enjoy digital HDTV broadcast programming.
Whether your passion is for DVDs, sports, or movies, the HCM5525WX delivers outstanding performance and convenience. At the heart of the set, three high-resolution 7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs power Samsung's RealFlect video system with excellent brightness and contrast. Samsung's PerfectFocus auto-convergence system corrects picture focus at the push of a button. Flicker-free progressive-scan picture performance eliminates scan lines visible in analog projection sets. Its 30-watt stereo audio system delivers ample sound for any entertainment venue.
The set's widescreen aspect ratio is the ideal screen format for viewing widescreen video from DVD players, as well as for the growing availability of broadcast programming from HDTV tuners, cable boxes, and satellite receivers. The HDTV component-video inputs accommodate any add-on HDTV tuners, HD satellite receivers, and HD cable boxes that output 1080i-format component-video (Y, Pb, Pr). NTSC-to-480p line doubling takes interlaced inputs (as those from VCRs and non-progressive-scan DVD players) and converts it to a sharper, clearer progressive-scan.
Dual-tuner picture-in-picture enables convenient simultaneous viewing of two TV programs. Remote control PIP functions include the mixing a TV source and a video source, and second-screen size and positioning on the TV screen. A universal remote control permits control over the TV, DVD, VCR, and cable box. A hinged door at the base of the set's component shelf permits placement of two full-sized components (a DVD player and an HDTV Tuner for example). The hinged door features a tinted window for passing remote-control signals, and openings in the back of the cabinet accommodate simple connection of cables and power cords.

Just went from a 43 inch Toshiba to this. I've always wanted a true widesceen as i love this movie type on DVD. It is an excellent performer. I especially love the compartment below to put say ... an HDTV tuner or a cable box,etc..The set does not have simulated surround sound but you can run it through your stereo for that.I also like that it does not have any type of annoying LED lights on the front panel to let you know that it's on.It does not have also for the technophobes out there 2:3 pulldown, but i'm telling you with a progressive scan DVD player with 2:3 pulldown such as the Pioneer DV-563A you will not miss it. It's also great with video games everyone almost it seems is concerned with burn in but i tell if you operate with normal use your set will be fine. Hope this helps.

Originally we purchased the 47" Samsung Wide Screen HDTV, but for some odd reason we felt that it wasn't big enough. So, we decided to invest a little bit more money to get this 55" TV, and we have been very happy, it's fully loaded with options and the picture quality is amazing. I recommend having a progressive-scan DVD player with this TV.
