Editorial Review:
Description: Filmed in Dublin's famous downtown train terminal which has been converted into one of the most delightful concert halls in Europe, LIVE IN DUBLIN features Andre and the orchestra performing a collection of old favorites and exciting new selections. Already a smash PBS program LIVE IN DUBLIN captures Andre Rieu and his magical live performances at their most elegant best!

I saw this show on PBS and enjoyed it. I like it even better without the commercial, excuse me, the fund raiser. That is the only time PBS airs this type of program, otherwise it is 10 years of more of AS Time Goes By.

Andre Rieu & the Johann Strauss orchestra in Dublin is just fantastic and outstanding, probably more than in previous DVDs. Dublin is my Alma Mater and I grew up in Medical School there at the time John Sheehan & the Dubliners were peaking in popularity after their huge success at The Royal Albert Hall,London in 1968. It was nice to see the usual lively John(as guest artist here) again, but with a different beard colour, taking Andre and the Johann Strauss orchestra along in 'Marino waltz'(John's own composition) & 'Irish Washerwoman'.I felt the same contagious, pleasant and cheerful shivers as the audience had during these interpretations.
I recognised and loved the short sceneries on the DVD like 'The Temple Bar & the Guinness pints' 'O'Connell bridge over the Lifey river,Grafton street and Trinity College, the greenery of 'The Emerald Isle' etc.
All the other interpretations are a very carefully chosen repertoire of well known tunes in Ireland and the usual 'Andre at his best' violin/orchestra favourites . The interpretation of 'The Waltz of all the waltzes of the world' was beautifully done with a most remarkable humourous ingenuity 'A la Andre' added to it.
My personal five star tune 'The last rose' is well interpreted as an entirely instrumental number though I missed Suzan Erens' vocal interpetation. I am a bit disappointed that Suzan did not interprete this one or any other number in this concert though ... Read More
