Editorial Review:
Product Description: Take your favorite digital photos, as well as music, with you anywhere with the multi-color morphing, BA800 digital audio player. The 256 MB device offers a 1.8" color LCD to view hundreds of downloaded images. It also features exclusive CooLights technology, enabling you to customize the color of the player with a push of the button.
Amazon.com Product Description: Adding a twist to traditional MP3 player functions, the Bantam BA800 not only plays MP3 and WMA files, but also displays digital still photos on its 1.8-inch color LCD screen. The dual functions make it a handy unit for folks who want the best of both worlds: portable music and a palm-held photo album. The BA800 supports a variety of visual formats, including JPEG, TIFF, BMP, and GIF, and displays the photos in a slideshow fashion while music plays in the background. Users have the choice of random, fade, push, or mosaic transitions, and intervals of 5, 10, 20, 30, or 60 seconds. And should the 256 MB of built-in memory prove insufficient, simply insert a Secure Digital card into the expansion memory slot.
Though the video functions make the biggest splash, the BA800 is an audio player at its core. Bantam integrated five sound modes into the device--flat, rock, jazz, dance, and Latino--and such playback modes as repeat (one and all tracks), shuffle, and resume. The resulting flexibility gives listeners several options based on genre and personal taste. Adding to the convenience is the slick interface and well-designed control panel, which lies underneath the 312 x 230 resolution screen. And tying it all together is CoolLights, an inventive built-in light show. CoolLights turns the player's semitranslucent sides into a 256-color chameleon. The player can pulse to the beat, slowly morph from one color to another, or simply display a solid hue.
The underside of the player includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB port for computer connection, and a slot that plugs into the included docking cradle. Additional features include a power-saving auto-off function; brightness and contrast controls; adjustable backlighting; a hold switch; and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
The Bantam BA800 measures 3.5 by 2.8 by 1.6 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a 90-day warranty.

I have had and used my BA800 for almost 3 years now, and up until about 2 months ago it worked great. It survived many falls, including getting stepped on and falling off of a 10 ft ladder. For someone who only wants to have about 70 songs at a time, then this is great. The audio quality is good, as long as you upgrade the headphones. Also the software is very ez to use and upload songs to the device.
The only downfall of mine was age. After almost 3 years of well use, the charger works, but you have to coax it into position first. Also, the screen is going a little bit wacky. But the biggest thing of all it the joy stick has to be pushed so hard that up until a month ago i didnt know that it still worked.
Overall, i basiclly ran this thing into the ground. (not literally of course) It was easily worth the price that i paid for it. But i have now moved onto the Hard Drive revolution. I have most recently purchased the iRiver H10, which is a beautiful device (see my full review at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009MCINQ/sr=1-3/qid=1133657061/ref=sr_1_3/102-9772882-1731323?%5Fencoding=UTF8), but it is also a lot more money. It all comes down to how much money you want to pay and what you are looking for.

I've been using my Bantam MP3 player since December last year, and my experience with it has been a very positive one.
This MP3/WMA player is very different from any of the other MP3 players out there. It combines "audio with vision", since it has a pretty cool LCD screen that lets you view pictures, and view the menus in pretty bright colors. It holds a good amount of songs for the price, plus, it has an expandable slot, so you can add more storage space with an SD card. The "Coolights" technology is quite interesting. You can change the color of your MP3 player to adjust to your mood, and the "Coolbeat" feature makes the lights "move to the music."
You can charge your MP3 player easily by using the AC adaptor that comes with the player, plus two more chargers so you can charge it from your computer through USB. This would make a perfect first MP3 player for anyone because it's extremely easy to use! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wishes to purchase it :)

Seemed like a nice product with good features and a decent price (after $40 rebate (...). My 11 year liked his gift that he could use on the long bus rides to and from school. I'm sure he didn't abuse it but even if he did shouldn't the power on/play button be able to stand up to more than 3 days of use? We'll have to send it back now to the manufacturer for service or replacement. 11 year old and I are very disappointed.

I have used quite a few different mp3 players and the Bantam 800 is by far the best. The price for the amount of storage(256 MB/upgradable by another 256MB with SD card) is great! The color screen in which I can view my favorite pictures is so cool. I put pics of me and my fiance on it. I even put pics of my favorite bands on it. The Coolights technology is so different and nice. I like to be able to change the players color depending on my mood. Plus, the light can be a nice safety feature while listening outdoors walking or jogging during hours of darkness. This player is way ahead of the pack!
